Bacteria can cause infections such as strep throat, ear infections, urinary tract infections, and sinus infections (sinusitis). There are many types of antibiotics. Each works a little differently and acts on different types of bacteria. Your doctor will decide which antibiotic will work best for your infection. Don't antibiotics cure everything? Antibiotics are powerful medicines, but they cannot cure everything. Antibiotics do not work against illnesses that are caused by a virus. They do not help illnesses such as: These illnesses usually go away by themselves. Ask your doctor what you can do to feel better. Foods That Cause Constipation![]() Why not take antibiotics just in case? If you take antibiotics when you do not need them, they may not work when you do need them. Each time you take antibiotics, you are more likely to have some bacteria that the medicine does not kill. These bacteria can change (mutate) so they are harder to kill. Then, the antibiotics that used to kill them no longer work. 2 Answers - Posted in: constipation, azithromycin, antibiotic - Answer: Hello lulabelle07. Yes it can. Regards pledge. Cures For Constipation In AdultsThese bacteria are called antibiotic- resistant bacteria. These tougher bacteria can cause longer and more serious infections. To treat them you may need different, stronger antibiotics that have more side effects than the first medicine and may cost more. Antibiotic- resistant bacteria also can spread to family members, children, and fellow workers. Your community then will have a risk of getting an infection that is harder to cure and costs more to treat. Some antibiotics that doctors prescribed in the past to treat common infections no longer work. Taking antibiotics you do not need will not help you feel better, cure your illness, or keep others from catching your infection. But taking them may cause side effects such as: Antibiotics also can cause Clostridium difficilecolitis (also called C. This happens because the antibiotics kill the normal bacteria in your intestine and allow the C. This problem can cause diarrhea, fever, and belly cramps. In rare cases, it can cause death. Women may get vaginal yeast infections from taking antibiotics. Continued. How can I help to make sure that antibiotics are the best treatment for me? Be smart about using antibiotics. Know that antibiotics can help treat infections caused by bacteria but not by viruses. Here are some things you can do to help make sure antibiotics will work when you need them: Always ask your doctor if antibiotics are the best treatment. Explain that you do not want antibiotics unless you need them. Avoid pressuring your doctor into prescribing antibiotics when they won't help you feel better or cure your illness. Ask your doctor what else you can do to feel better. Do not use antibiotics that were prescribed for a different illness or for someone else. You may delay correct treatment and become sicker. Protect yourself from illnesses. Keep your hands clean by washing them well with soap and clean, running water. Get a flu vaccine and other vaccines when you need them. Questions you can ask your doctor include: Why do I need antibiotics? What are the side effects of this antibiotic? Can I do anything to prevent the side effects? How do I take the antibiotic? Do I take it at a certain time of day? Do I take it with food? Will the antibiotic interfere with any other medicines? Will anything happen if I take this with other medicines, certain foods, or alcohol? Do I need to refrigerate antibiotics? Are there any special storage instructions? If you need to take antibiotics, always tell your doctor or pharmacist about other medicines or dietary supplements you are taking. Be sure to talk about any special diet you may be following, any food or drug allergies you may have, and any health problems you have. And make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. How do I take antibiotics? When your doctor prescribes an antibiotic: Take it exactly as directed. Always take the exact amount that the label says to take. If the label says to take the medicine at a certain time, follow these directions. Take it for as long as prescribed. You might feel better after you take it for a few days. But it is important to keep taking the antibiotic as directed. You need the full prescription to get rid of those bacteria that are a bit stronger and survive the first few days of treatment. Bacteria that an antibiotic cannot kill (antibiotic- resistant bacteria) can develop if you (and many other people) take only part of an antibiotic prescription. Continued. Antibiotics generally are safe. But it is important to watch for side effects. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain. In women, antibiotics can lead to vaginal yeast infections. In rare cases, antibiotics can cause a dangerous allergic reaction that requires emergency care. If the antibiotic causes side effects that really bother you, ask your doctor if treatment can help you deal with the side effects. Some minor side effects are hard to avoid, but if they are more severe, discuss them with your doctor. Or ask your doctor if another antibiotic will work as well but not cause these effects. Web. How Exercise Could Lead to a Better Brain“Only one thing had mattered,” Rhodes says, “and that’s whether they had a running wheel.” Animals that exercised, whether or not they had any other enrichments in their cages, had healthier brains and performed significantly better on cognitive tests than the other mice. Animals that didn’t run, no matter how enriched their world was otherwise, did not improve their brainpower in the complex, lasting ways that Rhodes’s team was studying. They loved the toys,” Rhodes says, and the mice rarely ventured into the empty, quieter portions of their cages. But unless they also exercised, they did not become smarter. · The apocryphal tale that you can't grow new brain cells just isn't true. Neurons continue to grow and change beyond the first years of development and well. Can we, as adults, grow new nerve cells? There's still some confusion about that question, as this is a fairly new field of research. Can we, as adults, grow new neurons? Neuroscientist Sandrine Thuret says that we can, and she offers research and practical advice on how we can help our brains. Why would exercise build brainpower in ways that thinking might not? The brain, like all muscles and organs, is a tissue, and its function declines with underuse and age. Beginning in our late 2. Exercise though seems to slow or reverse the brain’s physical decay, much as it does with muscles. Although scientists thought until recently that humans were born with a certain number of brain cells and would never generate more, they now know better. In the 1. 99. 0s, using a technique that marks newborn cells, researchers determined during autopsies that adult human brains contained quite a few new neurons. Fresh cells were especially prevalent in the hippocampus, indicating that neurogenesis — or the creation of new brain cells — was primarily occurring there. Even more heartening, scientists found that exercise jump- starts neurogenesis. Mice and rats that ran for a few weeks generally had about twice as many new neurons in their hippocampi as sedentary animals. Their brains, like other muscles, were bulking up. But it was the ineffable effect that exercise had on the functioning of the newly formed neurons that was most startling. Brain cells can improve intellect only if they join the existing neural network, and many do not, instead rattling aimlessly around in the brain for a while before dying. One way to pull neurons into the network, however, is to learn something. In a 2. 00. 7 study, new brain cells in mice became looped into the animals’ neural networks if the mice learned to navigate a water maze, a task that is cognitively but not physically taxing. But these brain cells were very limited in what they could do. When the researchers studied brain activity afterward, they found that the newly wired cells fired only when the animals navigated the maze again, not when they practiced other cognitive tasks. The learning encoded in those cells did not transfer to other types of rodent thinking. Exercise, on the other hand, seems to make neurons nimble. When researchers in a separate study had mice run, the animals’ brains readily wired many new neurons into the neural network. But those neurons didn’t fire later only during running. They also lighted up when the animals practiced cognitive skills, like exploring unfamiliar environments. In the mice, running, unlike learning, had created brain cells that could multitask. Just how exercise remakes minds on a molecular level is not yet fully understood, but research suggests that exercise prompts increases in something called brain- derived neurotropic factor, or B. D. N. F., a substance that strengthens cells and axons, fortifies the connections among neurons and sparks neurogenesis. Scientists can’t directly study similar effects in human brains, but they have found that after workouts, most people display higher B. Brain cancer & tumour definitions A brain tumour (or “tumor” with the American spelling) is a mass of unnecessary and abnormal cells growing in the brain. D. N. F. levels in their bloodstreams. Few if any researchers think that more B. D. N. F. explains all of the brain changes associated with exercise. The full process almost certainly involves multiple complex biochemical and genetic cascades. A recent study of the brains of elderly mice, for instance, found 1. Whether any type of exercise will produce these desirable effects is another unanswered and intriguing issue. It’s not clear if the activity has to be endurance exercise,” says the psychologist and neuroscientist Arthur F. Kramer, director of the Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois and a pre- eminent expert on exercise and the brain. A limited number of studies in the past several years have found cognitive benefits among older people who lifted weights for a year and did not otherwise exercise. But most studies to date, and all animal experiments, have involved running or other aerobic activities. Whatever the activity, though, an emerging message from the most recent science is that exercise needn’t be exhausting to be effective for the brain. When a group of 1. Meanwhile, the stretchers lost volume to normal atrophy. The walkers also displayed higher levels of B. D. N. F. in their bloodstreams than the stretching group and performed better on cognitive tests. In effect, the researchers concluded, the walkers had regained two years or more of hippocampal youth. ![]()

Ivy House in Burslem, Stoke- on- Trent, which allowed him to start his own pottery business. His marriage to Sarah Wedgwood, a distant cousin with a sizable dowry, helped him launch his new venture. In 1. 76. 5, Wedgwood created a new form of earthenware, which impressed the then British Queen consort Charlotte of Mecklenburg- Strelitz who gave official permission to call it "Queen's Ware." This new form sold extremely well across Europe. In 1. 76. 6, Wedgwood bought Etruria, a large Staffordshire estate, as both a home and factory site. ![]() Wedgwood developed a number of further industrial innovations for his company, notably a way of measuring kiln temperatures accurately and the new ware types Black Basalt and Jasper Ware. Portland Vase, about 1. Detail of First Edition Portland Vase by Wedgwood. Circa 1. 79. 5Wedgwood's best known product is jasperware created to look like ancient cameo glass. It was inspired by the Portland Vase, a Roman vessel which is now a museum piece. The first jasperware color was Portland Blue, an innovation that required experiments with more than 3,0. In recognition of the importance of his pyrometric beads (pyrometer), Josiah Wedgwood was elected a member of the Royal Society in 1. The Wedgwood Prestige collection sold replicas of the original designs as well as modern neo- classical style jasperware. The main Wedgwood motifs in jasperware, as well–as in other wares like basaltware, queensware, caneware, etc.–were decorative designs that were highly influenced by the ancient cultures being studied and rediscovered at that time, especially as Great Britain was expanding its empire. Many motifs were taken from ancient mythologies: Roman, Greek and Egyptian. Meanwhile, archaeological fever caught the imagination of many artists. Nothing could have been more suitable to satisfy this huge business demand than to produce replicas of ancient artefacts. Many representations of royalty, nobles and statesmen in silhouette were created, as well as political symbols. These were often set in jewellery, as well as in architectural features like fireplace mantels, mouldings and furniture. Wedgwood has honoured American individuals and corporations as well, both historically and recently. In 1. 77. 4 he employed the then 1. John Flaxman as an artist, who would work for the next 1. Wedgwood. The "Dancing Hours" may be his most well known design. Other artists known to have worked for Wedgwood include among others Lady Elizabeth Templetown, George Stubbs, Emma Crewe and Lady Diana Beauclerk. Wedgwood had increasing success with hard paste porcelain which attempted to imitate the whiteness of tea- ware imported from China, an extremely popular product amongst high society. High transport costs and the demanding journey from the Far East meant that the supply of chinaware could not keep up with increasingly high demand. Towards the end of the 1. Staffordshire manufacturers introduced bone china as an alternative to translucent and delicate Chinese porcelain.[2] In 1. Wedgwood produced their own bone china[3] which, though not a commercial success at first[2] eventually became an important part of an extremely profitable business.
